• Hughson plant to get 504 kW solar plant
• ‘We've been looking into cost-effective solar for some time’
Almond hulling and shelling company Pohl & Holmes Inc. of Hughson says it will soon get a lot of the power it needs from the sun. The company has started construction on a 504-kilowatt solar photovoltaic plant. Cenergy Power, a division of BAP Power Corp. of Carlsbad, is building the plant, which is to include approximately 2,520 ground-mounted solar modules. When finished in mid-November, it is expected to produce about 740,105 kwh of power per year. "We've been looking into cost-effective solar for some time," says Bryan Holmes, one of the principals of Pohl & Holmes. He says significant cost savings from combining solar with the local utility's “generous solar rebate,” convinced his company to move ahead.
